Chlamydia is the most common STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection), 1 in 9 young people have it, but many don’t know that they have it because up to ¾ of women and ½ of men have no symptoms at all. If it doesn’t get treated, Chlamydia can cause serious long term damage and can result in infertility in the future (not being able to have children).
If you do have symptoms, they could include:
Increased or changed vaginal discharge |
Discharge from the penis |
Pain when having a wee or pain during sex |
Pain and/or burning when having a wee |
Pain in the pelvis or lower abdomen |
Painful swelling of the balls (testicles) |
Irregular bleeding between periods or after sex |

Gonorrhoea is less common than chlamydia but 1 in 100 young people still have it. 10% of men and 80% of women have absolutely no symptoms.
If you do have symptoms, they could include:
Pain when having a wee |
Pain when having a wee |
Lower abdominal pain |
Pain or tenderness in the testicles |
Vaginal discharge |
A white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis |
When you are tested for Chlamydia, you will automatically be tested for Gonorrhoea as well. The test is very simple and you don’t need to be examined. You can either pee in a pot or women can use a self administered vaginal swab (not as scary as it sounds!!).
You will get your results within 2 weeks of being tested and you can choose whether you want to be phoned, texted or sent a letter. All contact is totally confidential.
If your test comes back positive, the infections are easy to treat with antibiotics.
Our clinics can also test you for HIV and Syphillis, these tests need a blood sample which can be taken at the clinic. |
